I love the holidays. I love the sights, the smells, the shopping, the food, the church services, the Christmas music! I especially love the joyous spirit that seems to be in the air and I can say for the first time in quite awhile that I am genuinely happy. I have drawn strength from the kindness and sincerity of others and I have rejoiced in being able to give in some small way to family and friends and even complete strangers.
I have been truly blessed over the past few weeks and I wanted to share a few stories with you, in hopes that you too can catch the "Christmas spirit."
The other day I stopped by Walmart after picking my son up from daycare. I literally just grabbed him; grabbed my wallet and ran in for some deodorant. We got back to the car, I strapped him in his car seat and we started the 20 minute ride home. About 16 minutes later I had an epiphany. I didn't have my wallet. When we got home I searched every nook and cranny of the car, my pockets, the Walmart bag...no beuno. I called my sister (isn't that what everyone does in these types of situations?). I asked her to pray and she calmly told me what to do next. I rushed back to Walmart and searched the parking lot...nothing. I went to the Customer Service desk and after a few minutes of suspenseful waiting, they handed me my Coach wallet....and everything was in it!! I thanked God loud and clear right there in the front of the store. I truly believe that it was the power of faith and prayer that brought my wallet back to me and I pray that God blesses the person who returned it!
Earlier this week, a woman came to our office to drop off gifts that she had collected for one of our adopted families. As I hugged her goodbye I noticed she was wearing adorable Christmas earrings. I said, "Your earrings are great." She said, "Do you want them?" and I said, "Oh no, I couldn't take them...I just think they're really nice." She said, "Do you have any Christmas earrings?" and I said, "Well, no" and she said, "Well then I'm giving you these!" She literally took the earrings out of her ears and handed them to me. I couldn't refuse because I was just so touched by this small and genuine blessing.
I know the holidays aren't a happy time for everyone but I hope that all of our readers can take time for themselves sometime this season to reflect on the little things that make your life joyful!
