Ironically, after writing about how to get through the storms of life, my family literally went through a storm. Hurricane Irene swept through our city - downing trees and power lines along the way. But we're all okay, thanks to some serious prayer and good preparation. We had our emergency kit packed in case of a quick evacuation and we stocked up on flashlights, candles, water and canned food prior to the start of the storm. We were only out of power for about 8 hours but many Virginians are still waiting for theirs to be restored.
And what a miracle - my little garden is still fully intact, minus a few branches of my tomato plants but elsewhere entire trees were uprooted! go figure. It was a humbling experience though, and a stark reminder of the sheer strength and power of "Mother Nature."
