Booked!

Posted by: Jessica

Today was appointment number three for me. This week, I have been to the dentist, the chiropractor, and the nurse practitioner and tomorrow, I get to meet with my primary physician.

I would consider myself an overall healthy person. However, the dentist, and the doctor (and yes even the chiropractor) scare the $#!+ out of me!
Yes, I take pictures in the doctor's office

THE NEGATIVE: I wanted to get adjusted because of my new work out habits this summer so I went to see the chiro and he said I was great! But I was also due for a check up with the dentist and they found TWO cavities. Lastly, my appointment with the nurse which was supposed to just be a simple physical for grad school turned into bad news galore!

So tomorrow I will have to go to my primary physician to get it checked out! Not to mention I want to also visit the dermatologist and my beautician before I head back to the South. I also live with my own personal trainer (my dad) so I always feel held accountable in that arena!

THE POSITIVE:  I believe that Black women especially neglect our bodies. We are so caught up with focusing on the world and people around us that we forget to get caught up with our "appointments." So, I am proud of myself for even taking those hesitant steps into the doctor's office, because so many of us never do. And besides, it is better to know than to be ignorant.

I encourage you to set up appointments; get the doctors that you need. Dentists, therapists, physicians, OB/GYNs. It doesn't hurt to have an arsenal of experts behind you.
